About the Burnaby-North Seymour NDP

Burnaby North-Seymour spans two sides of Burrard inlet on the unceded territories of the Tsleil-Waututh (səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ), Kwikwetlem (kʷikʷəƛ̓əm), Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw) and Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm) Nations. This land encompasses large portions of North-Vancouver and Burnaby, formerly separate ridings with distinct character. Almost the entire riding falls within 5km of Burrard inlet, making the necessary protection of those waters something that binds all of us.

The terminus of the Transmountain Pipeline and its expansion fall within the riding as does the Parkland Refinery. The Burnaby North-Seymour NDP has taken an active stance against the Transmountain Pipeline Expansion, which violates our obligations to indigenous nations and poses a threat to our water, environment, and climate.

The riding includes Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby Campus, with over 20,000 students, 5,000 staff, and 6,000 residents in Univercity. In addition the neighbourhoods of Burnaby-Heights, famous for Hats off days and a myriad of restaurants, Burnaby’s Forest Grove, North-Vancouver’s Deep Cove, the Tsleil-Waututh nation, and many other unique places are found within the riding.

Currently a 23-member executive, the Burnaby North-Seymour NDP has members who have active presence in many community groups. From housing activism, to fighting against climate change and for a just transition, to pushing for new public investments in programs like Universal childcare, you’ll find many of our executives and members at the forefront of progressive change in Burnaby and North Vancouver.
